Children’s Own School has 5 classrooms each staffed with a Montessori guide and a classroom assistant.
We have four primary classrooms with a mixed age group of children 2.9 to 6 years of age, and children benefit by the three years with the same teacher and classmates. We also have a pre-primary classroom for our youngest children between the ages of 2.5 and 2.9 years.
Our Pre-Primary Program serves nine children. The hours are 8:30am to 12:00noon, or 8:30am to 4:30pm. Children who stay until 4:30pm take a nap after lunch then join their peers from the primary classrooms in the Enrichment Program.
Our Primary Program is the traditional Montessori classroom. We expect enrolled children to complete the developmental cycle for this program and leave Children's Own School to move into a first grade classroom. Younger children may stay until 12:00pm or 2:30pm while the oldest children, the five and six year olds, stay for the full day until 2:30pm.
Our Enrichment Program is an afternoon program for all our students. Children enjoy an afternoon of relaxed activities and outdoor play from 2:30pm until 4:30pm.
Once children enter our historic, sun-filled schoolhouse they enjoy uninterrupted classroom time. Joyful, thoughtful, peaceful and focused work is accomplished as children move freely from one Montessori material to another, accelerating at their own pace. We go outside regularly, weather permitting. Once a week, each classroom participates in music and French.
